Let’s get started.
1. Owner takes note that he may have a claim on his roof.
Clues: Sees shingles on ground, hail storm passed through area, neighbors are getting their roofs replaced, leak inside.
2. Owner calls in claim and receives a claim number from his insurance company.
3. Insurance company calls owner for appointment.
4. Adjuster for insurance company comes out and inspects roof and exterior of house for damage.
Outcome 1- Adjuster denies claim and explains the reason why.
Outcome 2- Adjuster finds some damage but only allows for repairs and not full replacement.
Outcome 3- Adjuster finds evidence to warrant a full roof replacement.
5. If full replacement cost is warranted the insurance company will provide estimate of the replacement cost along with a partial check of the estimate.
After replacement of roof the insurance company will release the balance to the home owner for final payment, less the deductible which the
home owner is responsible for to pay the contractor. Example, if total estimate is $10,000, the home owner pays the deductible $1,000 and the insurance company pays $9,000. The total of the two amounts equals the estimate total of $10,000.
6. After completion of roof, insurance company will issue final payment. Sometimes the insurance puts the mortgage company name on check.
